Verse of the Day 5/21

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. English Standard Version (ESV)

In reading today's verses, stop for a minute or two, or an hour or more, and think of what it means that Jesus "knows" ou. It is not just a casual knowledge like we say when we know someone but it is more of knowing there identity but not much of the details or that we have a personal relationship with them. God knows us intimately, in fact, He knows us better than we know ourselves. If we have put our faith and trust in Him we know that He is for us, He goes before us, is behind us and is always near.

John Piper writes, "'It is hard to overemphasize what a tremendous privilege it is to be known personally, intimately, lovingly by the Son of God. It is a precious gift to all his sheep, and it contains within it profound, personal fellowship and affection and the promise of eternal life.'"

The apostle Paul puts it like this: "God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are his'" (2 Timothy 2:19).

Satan is a destroyer, Jesus is the protector, we are safe in His and the Father's hand.

They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand. The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him. (John 10:29-30 The Message below).

John 10:24-30 The Message (MSG)

22-24 They were celebrating Hanukkah just then in Jerusalem. It was winter. Jesus was strolling in the Temple across Solomon's Porch. The Jews, circling him, said, "How long are you going to keep us guessing? If you're the Messiah, tell us straight out."

25-30 Jesus answered, "I told you, but you don't believe. Everything I have done has been authorized by my Father, actions that speak louder than words. You don't believe because you're not my sheep. My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand.
