Verse of the Day 4/16
Matthew 6:34 Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time.[a] Tomorrow will take care of itself." The Passion Translation (TPT)
Last night I had the best night sleep that I've had in a while. Why was that? It was because I was not as anxious, nervous or as worried about something as I had been. Why was that, largely because of a doctor's diagnosis and prognosis. It wasn't great, but it was better than my worst fears. Why was putting so much stock in the doctor's opinion? It is God who clothes the lilies and the grass of the field (verse 28 NKJV below). His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Reading the passage in the NKJV, the word anxious comes up 6 times, an imperfect number. Coming up that many times in the passage gives us an indication that it is common to man, even to Jesus' followers. Instead of worrying we should pray and trust God when He whispers to us "I've got this".
John Piper writes, "we often tend to despair when we think that we may have to bear tomorrow's load on today's resources. God wants us to know: We won't. Today's mercies are for today's troubles. Tomorrow's mercies are for tomorrow's troubles."
When something comes up in your life that causes you to be anxious or to worry. Step back. "Refuse to worry" and turn it over, take it to the Lord in prayer. Let tomorrow take care of itself.
What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and grieves to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer
Oh what peace we often forfeit of what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations is there trouble anywhere
If we have don't be discouraged take it to the Lord in prayer

Matthew 6:25-34 English Standard Version (ESV)
Do Not Be Anxious
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
