Verse of the Day 4/17

Verse of the Day 4/17

1 Corinthians 15:19-20  If the only benefit of our hope in Christ is limited to this life on earth, we deserve to be pitied more than all others!

20 But the truth is, Christ is risen from the dead, as the firstfruit of a great resurrection harvest of those who have died.    The Passion Translation (TPT)

Our men's Bible study has been going through the book of Mark.  We've seen Jesus power displayed in casting out demon; in healing people of various illnesses and long term conditions; and we have even seen Him raise Jairus' daughter from the dead.  But all of these people would end up dying; and if that were the end; what hope would there be?

As we look ahead this week we will remember that Jesus also died.  He experienced suffering beyond belief and death which we will remember on Good Friday.  But the story doesn't end there.  He arose! He conquered the grave!  And because He did we also have hope.

We all long for the day when cancer and other life threatening illnesses would be conquered.  But we see in Jesus, victory over the greatest foe, death.   He offers that same victory, that same power to us who put our faith and trust in Him.

I can walk
Down this dark and painful road
I can face
Every fear of the unknown
I can hear
All God's children singing out
We will not be overtaken
We will not be overcome
The same power that rose Jesus from the grave
The same power that commands the dead to wake
Lives in us, lives in us
The same power that moves mountains when He speaks
The same power that can calm a raging sea
Lives in us, lives in us
He lives in us, lives in us
We have hope
That His promises are true
In His strength
There is nothing we can't do
Yes, we know
There are greater things in store
We will not be overtaken
We will not be overcome   (Jeremy Camp - The Same Power)

No matter what dark and painful road lies ahead here on this earth; we worship the One who offers victory over death, our greatest foe.  May we be able to proclaim "we will not be overtaken; we will not be overcome" because that same power that raised Jesus lives in us.

1 Corinthians 15:19-26 New King James Version (NKJV)

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

The Last Enemy Destroyed

20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have [a]fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
