Verse of the Day 7/28

Verse of the Day 7/28

Romans 5:20-21 God???s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God???s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God???s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. New Living Translation (NLT)

We???ve considered God???s grace a lot recently, and as I read today???s verses in the New Living Translation I couldn???t help but go back to it again. The NLT translation says ???now God???s wonderful grace rules instead???. No matter what we???ve done, when we turn to Jesus, when we turn from our sin, His grace ???overrules???.

Our Pastor Bob sent out a question on Facebook this week asking for everyone???s favorite hymn. Many good choices rolled in from Great is Thy Faithfulness; Holy,Holy, Holy; Count Your Many Blessings; A Mighty Fortress and others. I hadn???t thought of the following until I read today???s verses - ???Wonderful the Matchless Grace of Jesus.

Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it, where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden, setting my spirit free,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost;
Chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty,
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power, making him God???s dear child.
Purchasing peace and heaven for all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me!

REFRAIN: Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain,
All-sufficient grace for even me;
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame;
O magnify the precious name of Jesus, praise His name!

"Wonderful Grace of Jesus" combines doctrinal truth with a buoyant melody and serves as a good vehicle for teaching the doctrine of grace. It touches on the availability, sufficiency, and efficacy of the salvation offered by grace through faith in Christ, and so carries an appropriate message for believer and unbeliever alike. Though we should be aware that Lillenas???s own theology may not line up completely with that of most readers , his words do carry the Gospel of grace, making this hymn worthy of the category "Hymn of Grace." Keith W. Ward

Has His wonderful grace reached you? If so, praise His name. If not, seek Him today, turn to Him; pray for that grace today. It is available to you, you are not out of reach.

Blessings,

Mike

Romans 5:18-21 New King James Version (NKJV)

18 Therefore, as through [a]one man???s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one[b] Man???s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man???s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man???s obedience many will be made righteous.

20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
