Verse of the Day 11/13
1 Peter 5:6-7 If you bow low in God's awesome presence, he will eventually exalt you as you leave the timing in his hands.
7 Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you. The Passion Translation (TPT)
You are probably more familiar with other translations that begin these verses with "humble yourselves" and then in verse 7 tell us to "cast your cares" upon God. The Passion Translation above has the same meaning but using different adjectives and verbs. No matter how you look at it, it is submitting yourselves to God, trusting in Him and casting or pouring out your cares to Him. Leave it to HIm.
Sometimes it seems that I can handle the "big things", the trials in life better than I do the rather trivial things that happen from day to day. Why is that? I know the answer. Pride, I think I should be able to handle it and take care of things on my own so I don't even bother praying about them. I don't submit. To "pour out" worries gives the image of pouring your heart out to God. It doesn't matter if it seems to be a pitcher jug, or a tiny half filled glass of troubles, we, I, should pour them out to HIm. We'll all be better off for it.
John Piper writes, "So all your trembling — weak as it is — reveals pride. The remedy? Turn from self-reliance to God-reliance, and put your faith in the all-sufficient power of future grace."
What has you fretting, worrying or trembling today. Break away from your pride, submit to God in prayer and leave it to Him, rest in His all sufficient grace.
Blessings,
Mike
1 Peter 5:6-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
8 Be [a]sober, be [b]vigilant; [c]because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But [d]may the God of all grace, who called [e]us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, [f]perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
