Verse of the Day 11/16
Psalm 146:1-2 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
My innermost being will praise you, Lord!
2 I will spend my life praising you and
singing high praises to you, my God, every day of my life! The Passion Translation (TPT)
I read today's verses in a Today in the Word devotional. Along with the verses the post explained some things about "Lord" and the word translated as "praise".
"The word Lord is often in capital letters in our English Bibles, because in the original language, this is the word Yahweh. It is also important to note that the Hebrew word Hallelu means "praise." Therefore, when we put the Hallelu and Yah together we get Hallelujah, which means "Praise the Lord." (From: Today in the Word 11/16)
The verses and the explanation of these words brought back memories from childhood and singing the chorus "Praise Ye the LORD". It was a simple chorus that was often used in the opening exercises of Sunday School of what was then the Schiller Park Evangelical Free church. The words were something like this:
Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelujah!
Praise ye the Lord,
Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelujah!
Praise ye the Lord!
Half of the congregation (usually right side and left) would sing or shout the hallelu part while standing then they would sit down and the other half of the congregation would sing "Praise the Lord". We would then reverse the order; each half of the congregation trying to outdo one another in shouting praise to God. It was an uplifting chorus and was ingrained into the minds of us "kids" while our parents sang along.
Many of those "kids" still receive these posts. Most of the parents that were there have by now gone on to be with the Lord where we know they are still singing and shouting the glad refrain. For us who are here and remain, may we remember them, remember the chorus and sing aloud or in our hearts those lines.
Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelujah!
Praise ye the Lord,
Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelu,Hallelujah!
Praise ye the Lord!
I'll close with the first verses from the book of Hebrews which just happens to be from today's passage from the read through the New Testament plan that I'm following. I can picture many of those faces singing along with us in endless praise.
Hebrews 12:1 New King James Version (NKJV)Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith,

Our True Help
146 A poetic psalm, by Haggai and Zechariah[a]
1 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
My innermost being will praise you, Lord!
2 I will spend my life praising you and
singing high praises to you, my God, every day of my life!
3–4 We can never look to men for help;
no matter who they are, they can't save us,
for even our great leaders fail and fall.
They too are just mortals who will one day die.
At death the spirits of all depart and their bodies return to dust.
In the day of their death all their projects and plans are over.
5 But those who hope in the Lord will be happy and pleased!
Our help comes from the God of Jacob!
6 You keep all your promises.
You are the Creator of heaven's glory,
earth's grandeur, and ocean's greatness.
7 The oppressed get justice with you.
The hungry are satisfied with you.
Prisoners find their freedom with you.
8 You open the eyes of the blind
and you fully restore those bent over with shame.
You love those who love and honor you.
9 You watch over strangers and immigrants
and support the fatherless and widows.
But you subvert the plans of the ungodly.
10 Lord, you will reign forever!
Zion's God will rule throughout time and eternity!
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
