Verse of the Day 1/10

Verse of the Day 1/10

Psalm 32:8 You said to me,

"I will point out the road
    that you should follow.
I will be your teacher
    and watch over you.   Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Today's verse comes from Psalm 32 which is written about David's confession and turning back to the Lord after His sin with Bathsheba.  David had followed the Lord earlier in his life but at some point he drifted, he strayed and took a wrong turn.   But as we read below David acknowledges His sin and returns to the Lord and seeks His divine guidance.

I admit that I enjoy "classic rock" and this verse and the discussion reminds me of a line from the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven" which states, "yes their are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road your on".  David had realized his error, his sins were before him and dogged him.  But he realized that there was still time to change, still time to turn, confess and to receive forgiveness and then to follow God's leading down the road he should follow.

Charles Stanley writes, "Hanging on my office wall is a print that I've had for nearly 60 years. It shows the Lord Jesus standing behind a young man whose eyes are focused in the direction that the Master is pointing. Jesus' hand is on the man's shoulder, and I imagine He is saying, "This is the way we're going. I will get you to the destination." Although the road will be marked with both joy and suffering, the Lord leads His followers all the way to their eternal home."

Are we set on finding our own way down the path in life or are we willing to go where Jesus is pointing?  If you've been on your own; there's still time to change the road your on.

  1. I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  2. The world behind me, the cross before me;
    The world behind me, the cross before me;
    The world behind me, the cross before me;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  3. Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  4. Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    No turning back, no turning back.

Psalm 32:5-11 English Standard Version (ESV)

I acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,"
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Therefore let everyone who is godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from trouble;
    you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
    or it will not stay near you.

10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
    and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
