Verse of the Day 7/19

Deuteronomy 31:8 It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."      English Standard Version (ESV)

We've considered how God's Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path from Psalm 119:105 and how His Word is implanted in our hearts and  soul as we take it in, memorize it and apply it from James 1:21.  In today's passage Moses is preparing to "pass the torch" of leadership of God's people on to Joshua.  I use the "pass the torch" phrase to tie into the previous passages that we've looked at.

Moses  and God are giving Joshua specific assurances that Joshua can take with him every day of his life, words that would be implanted in his soul and light the way for him to lead God's people.  Look at the statements individually - It is the Lord who goes before you, He is blazing the trail; He will be with you, every step of the way; He will not leave or forsake you, count on Him, trust in Him, lean on Him.  Having those assurances Joshua can then "not fear or be dismayed."

Some of us may not be sure of our next step, whether it be a a job decision; a health decision or perhaps a ministry decision.  God's words through Moses to Joshua apply to us today as they did several thousand years ago.  Read the short passage below, may you be strong and courageous knowing that He goes before you, He will be with you and He will never leave or forsake you.

Where are you, men of courage?
You were made for so much more
Let the pounding of our hearts cry
We will serve the Lord

We were made to be courageous
And we're taking back the fight
We were made to be courageous
And it starts with us tonight

The only way we'll ever stand
Is on our knees with lifted hands
Make us courageous

⁶ Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you."

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. ⁸ It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."
