Verse of the Day 7/8
Jeremiah 23:23-24 "Am I a God who is only near"—this is the Lord's declaration—"and not a God who is far away? 24 Can a man hide himself in secret places where I cannot see him?"—the Lord's declaration. "Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?"—the Lord's declaration. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The other day we considered from Psalm 121 how God watches over our "coming and going", every day. Today's verses from the prophet Jeremiah have a similar ring that God is with us "near or far" to the point that He fills the heavens and the earth.
Stop and think about that for a minute or two (or even longer) today. There may be times where we may feel for away from God or that He is far away from us, off somewhere addressing a more important matter than my problems. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Having recently been to the ocean and watch my grandkids play with buckets of water from the ocean brought an analogy. They could fill the buckets with the oceans water but they could not contain all of the ocean. If we've done much studying of the Bible we have heard and believed that God is omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (He's everywhere at the same time). That is part of "filling the heavens and the earth". Keep this in mind in your going out and coming in today. He is inside of us and all around us and knows exactly what we are dealing with and what our needs are. He also has the power to meet any and all of those needs.
May we be aware of His presence and be filled with His Spirit today.
To hunger, to seek, to thirst
Awaken first love, come awake
And do as You did at first
Come wake me from my sleep
Blow through the caverns of my soul
Pour in me to overflow,
to overflow

Jeremiah 23:23-29 English Standard Version (ESV)
23 "Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? 24 Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. 25 I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed!' 26 How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27 who think to make my people forget my name by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their fathers forgot my name for Baal? 28 Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. 29 Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
