Verse of the Day 10/6
Revelation 1:10-11 It was the Lord's Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. 11 It said, "Write in a book[b] everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea." New Living Translation (NLT)
In yesterday's post from John 14, we considered how the Holy Spirit comes along beside us as a helper and a comforter. But He has much more for us than that. Worshipping is a two way street with God, we sing praises and open our hearts desiring to hear and to do His will. Today's verses are a reminder of how the Spirit call and charges people to do things, in this instance the Apostle John.
Can you imagine what it would have felt like to hear the voice of God from behind you in a voice as "loud as a trumpet"? It got John's attention as I'm sure it would have gotten or would get ours should God choose to speak to us that way. More often, we may feel His promptings as more of a nudge or a prod, nonetheless; when we feel the Spirit's call, we are to answer.
Charles Spurgeon once said, "Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without the wind, branches without sap, and like coals without fire, we are useless." John was in the Spirit and heard the voice of the Lord, loud like a trumpet. Being in the Spirit is a phrase that is used to describe a supernatural encounter with God in our lives, and it is often portrayed in the scriptures.
When we spend time in God's Word and in prayer, may we be open to His promptings; His call to action; and act upon it. What will you hear today? Perhaps it is to write and send a message today or perhaps to reach out and call someone who has been on your mind. Perhaps it will be to strike up a conversation with a stranger. Whatever the case may be, be ready to act.
Hear the spirit call
Come just as you are
Come and see
Come receive
Come and live forever
Strength for today
Taste the living water
And never thirst again

Revelation 1:9-16 New King James Version (NKJV)
Vision of the Son of Man
9 I, John, [a]both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11 saying, [b]"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last," and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches [c]which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."
12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
