Verse of the Day 3/19

Verse of the Day 3/19

Deuteronomy 7:9   "Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

New King James Version (NKJV)

Today is day two in going through the verses that come to mind from the old hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness" and as you notice by the verse above we are still on that first statement, "great is Thy faithfulness".  Reading it again should cause you to think of "a thousand generations".  It is easy to read it and skip right by, but instead, I suggest that you stop there and think about it for a minute. A generation can easily be 20 years or longer, that would mean at least 20,000 years.  The words probably weren't intended to be an exact amount, but point to what in our minds would seam to be an eternity, but are nothing compared to an eternity in heaven with the God who created us.

Another thing to consider in this verse is what our reaction to this should be.  We should be able to say it, He's been faithful to me.  Stop and look through your life and how He has been thankful.  Think back generations in your family and how He has been faithful to bring you to where you are in your life.  Then look ahead and think of what He will do for generations to come.

I'm reminded of another song by Damaris Carbaugh, "He's Been Faithful to Me".  Many of us have experienced moments of pain and fear, perhaps never more so than during this pandemic.  But my hope and prayer is that you can still see that through it all He has been faithful.

In my moments of Fear
Though Every Pain Every Tear
There's A God Who's Been Faithful To Me
When My Strength Was All Gone
When My Heart Had No Song
Still In Love He's Proved Faithful To Me
Every Word He's Promised Is True
What I Thought Was Impossible
I've Seen My God Do
He's Been Faithful
Faithful To Me
He's been faithful, faithful to me
Looking Back He's Love And Mercy I See
Though In My Heart I Have Questioned
And Failed To Believe
He's Been Faithful, Faithful To Me
When My Heart Looked Away
The Many Times I Could Not Pray
Still My God Was Faithful To Me
The Days Are Spent So Selfishly
Reaching Out For What Pleased Me
Even Then God Was Faithful To Me
Every Time I Come Back To Him
He Is Waiting with Open Arms
And I See Once Again
He's Been Faithful
Faithful To Me

Deuteronomy 7:6-8 New King James Version (NKJV)

"For you are a [a]holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of [b]bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
