Verse of the Day 7/16

Verse of the Day 7/16

Psalm 32:1-2
English Standard Version

32 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Yesterday we considered how the weight of David's sin had crushed him, but in being brought low he was shown mercy and sought forgiveness and restoration.  Mortar is what is used to build strong walls and lives.  Today's verses come from another Psalm that deal with David's sin.  The weight of guilt has been lifted, grace and forgiveness have been given, and his spirit's were lifted.

Three words for sin are used in these verses.  Transgression is rebellion, willfully crossing the line into sin, David knew it was wrong but he had gone full speed ahead.  The second is sin; failure, missing the mark. David, Peter'e denial of Jesus and our times of missing the mark are examples.  The third is iniquity or perversion, twisting the truth.  You may think of Satan convincing Adam and Eve to question God "did God really say".  How many times have others, have we twisted God's Word to allow sin in our lives, trying to justify our actions.

If we find ourselves in the midst of any of these today, or perhaps we are currently crushed with guilt because of them, there is hope.  We can cry out to Jesus.  He will forgive, forget and restore.

For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you're not alone in your shame
And your suffering
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
And love for the broken heart
And there is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus      (Cry Out to Jesus - Third Day)

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 32:1-7
English Standard Version

Blessed Are the Forgiven

A Maskil[a] of David.

32 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried up[b] as by the heat of summer. Selah

I acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,"
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Therefore let everyone who is godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from trouble;
    you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah
