Verse of the Day 10/2

Verse of the Day 10/2

Ephesians 4:26-27
New King James Version

26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.

Today's veses came up in the read through the New Testament plan that I follow.  They were words that I needed to read and to hear today.  I read them in my hunting blind, which meant that I had plenty of time to ponder them since the game animals were not moving.

In reading the beginning of verse 26 I had to do a double take.  I read it first as don't be angry and do not sin, but it says, "be angry".  Huh!  I've been dealing with some anger issues of my own lately and I had to stop and think about this.  There are justified reasons to be angy - injustice, immorality and just about any kind of sin.  The problem is, what do we do with anger?
If we let it get to us it can lead to sin.  Fits of rage, temper tantrums, throwing things, breaking things, saying nasty things and worse are just a few examples of what unresolved anger can lead to.

So being angry doesn't necessarily lead to sin but it needs to be dealt with.  Confessing anger; owning up to it; dealing with it; and resolving to solve the issue are all things that can be done to properly deal with it.  The other important thing is addressed in the verse, "don't let the sun go down on it".  Don't let it linger, it will only drag you down.

All too often that anger comes out in saying destructive things. We'll cloese with what Paul told his readers and us. Before you vent your anger, keep it in check and say something encouraging and helpful. You can snuff out the anger and the damage at one time.

Ephesians 4:29 b
New Living Translation

29 b Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Ephesians 4:25-32
New Living Translation

25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And "don't sin by letting anger control you."[a] Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

30 And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,[b]

guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
