Verse of the Day 12/6

Verse of the Day 12/6

Colossians 1:19-20                    English Standard Version

19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Our Monday men's Bible Study has been going through the book of Romans and we've noticed that as we go through chapters 3 to 6 there are a lot of "accounting" terms being used.  We see "counted", "justified", "reconciled", "wages" and other terms.  In today's verses we have one of those terms, "reconciled".  We normally think of this in terms of balancing the books or setting things right.  At this time of the year we celebrate Jesus birth when He came to set things right, making a great exchange His life for ours.  He changed the relationship that we had with God.

Many of the hymns and Christmas carols that we sing also deal with the subject:

  1. Hark! The herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King;
    Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
    God and sinners reconciled!"
    Joyful, all ye nations rise,
    Join the triumph of the skies;
    With th'angelic host proclaim,
    "Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
    • Refrain:
      Hark! the herald angels sing,
      "Glory to the newborn King!"
  2. Hail the heav'nly Prince of Peace!
    Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
    Light and life to all He brings,
    Ris'n with healing in His wings.
    Mild He lays His glory by,
    Born that man no more may die;
    Born to raise the sons of earth,
    Born to give them second birth.

As you go through the season, hear the songs while at the mall, at home or in the car, think of the words being sung.  Think of the great exchange.  Life for death, light for darkness, peace for turmoil, gladness for sorrow and more.  He has brought us to HImself that we may have His light and life, here today, tomorrow and for eternity.

Blessings,
Mike

Colossians 1:19-23
English Standard Version    19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation[a]
 under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
