Verse of the Day 11/10

Verse of the Day 11/10

Psalm 24:3-4
Holman Christian Standard Bible

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in His holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who has not set his mind on what is false,
and who has not sworn deceitfully.

Today's verses came up in my daily readings in the Psalms. Reading the words "the mountain of the Lord" gave me pause.  I love the mountains and enjoy driving in them and often pull over at the "scenic overlook" stops.  There is something about the mountains, the clouds, the sky of those vistas that just makes me glory in the God who created all of this.  Then imagine a mountain in the heavenly kingdom, how awesome that must be, I know that I want to be there.  The verses ask the questions "who may ascend" and "who may stand" in this holy place.  The psalmist also give the answer, theirs whose hearts are set on God and desire to follow with a purified heart,

These thoughts bring me to one of my favorite quotes from Jonathan Edwards and the distant view of God:

"As grace increases the field opens more and more to a distant view, until the soul is swallowed up with the vastness of the object, and the person is astonished to think how much it becomes him to love his God and this glorious Redeemer that has so loved man."- Jonathan Edwards -

We are allowed to stand on that mountain by the love and grace of God.  These thoughts brought me to the Third Day song "Mountain of God". It won't be easy but life's journey following after God is worth it.

Thought that I was all alone
Broken and afraid
But You were there with me
Yes, You were there with me

And I didn't even know
That I had lost my way
But You were there with me
Yes, You were there with me

'Til You opened up my eyes
I never knew
That I couldn't ever make it
Without You

Even though the journey's long
And I know the road is hard
Well, the One who's gone before me
He will help me carry on
After all that I've been through
Now I realize the truth
That I must go through the valley
To stand upon the mountain of God

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 24
Holman Christian Standard Bible

Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A Davidic psalm.

The earth and everything in it,
the world and its inhabitants,
belong to the Lord;
for He laid its foundation on the seas
and established it on the rivers.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in His holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who has not set his mind[a] on what is false,
and who has not sworn deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord,
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek Him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
The Lord of Hosts,
He is the King of glory.Selah
