Verse of the Day 2/6

Verse of the Day 2/6

Psalm 138:7-8
New Living Translation

Though I am surrounded by troubles,
    you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand,
    and the power of your right hand saves me.
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
    for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
    Don't abandon me, for you made me.

Reading today's verses from the NLT, I was reminded of some of the old western TV shows and movies where a character was holed up somewhere and the enemy comes along and says "come out, we've got you surrounded".  If the character is a hero of the story, you know that somehow, some way he is going to get out of it.  That's the kind of feeling that I get here.  David was in many precarious situations and the Lord had delivered him in the past and he trusts that the Lord will deliver him again.

Do you feel like that sometimes, perhaps even today?  Call on the Lord, trust in Him, for He is faithfuul.  Have confidence that the Lord will work out his plans for your life.

I'll return to the hymn "A Mighty Fortress" and the last two stanzas.

And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
4
That word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
The Westminster Confession of Faith states, "God has unchangeably ordained whatsoever comes to pass".  May we put our trust in Him and allow His truth to triumph through us, for His honor and glory, His kingdom is forever.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 138
New Living Translation

Psalm 138

A psalm of David.

I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart;
    I will sing your praises before the gods.
I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
    I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed
    by all the honor of your name.
As soon as I pray, you answer me;
    you encourage me by giving me strength.

Every king in all the earth will thank you, Lord,
    for all of them will hear your words.
Yes, they will sing about the Lord's ways,
    for the glory of the Lord is very great.
Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble,
    but he keeps his distance from the proud.
