Verse of the Day 3/30

Romans 8:31-32

New International Version

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Last night our family attended a Good Friday service at our church.  Many people came to come and reflect on what Jesus had done for us and what it means to us.

Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard observed, "Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards." Think of this in terms of Good Friday and Easter and eternity. Without Easter and the resurrection, we could not understand Good Friday.  We could not understand the cross, the suffering, the brualiity.  But because  He arose, He lives, we too can live now and forever with the living hope that we have in the resurrection of Jesus.

John Piper writes, "Romans 8:32 is a precious friend. The promise of God's future grace is simply overwhelming. But all-important is the foundation: I have called it the logic of heaven. Here is a place to stand against all obstacles. God did not spare his own Son! Therefore! Therefore! The logic of heaven! Therefore, how much more will he not spare any effort to give us all that Christ died to purchase — all things, all good, and all bad working for our good! "

Today is the meantime, while we wait, we contemplate what tomorrow will bring, based on what Jesus has already done.

More Than Conquerors

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."[a]

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
