Verse of the Day 4/27

Verse of the Day 4/27

Luke 19:9-10
New International Version

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

Today's passage came up in the read through the New Testament plan.  It is a familiar evernt where Jesus calls Zacchaeus, a tax collector, a "sinner", looked down upon by many.  He has heard about Jesus and hearing that He is coming to town He sets out to see Him.  Little does He know that Jesus had a divine appointment, and would call him personally down from the sycamore tree to meet and spend time with him.

The event shows how effective the call is.  In the previous chapter the rich young ruler asked "difficult is it for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God".  Here, Jesus demonstrates that no matter how difficult it may seem, "with God, nothing is impossible". (Luke 18:24-27).

God is still working in the same way.  People feel the emptiness and may attend church many times to find out more about God.  Then one day God truly calls them, opens their hearts and they receive Him by faith.  Their lives are never the same.

We who have experienced that divine appointment look forward to the day when Jesus will return with another divine appointment and call us home, when we'll all see Jesus.

  1. Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
    Sing His mercy and His grace;
    In the mansions bright and blessed
    He'll prepare for us a place.
    • Refrain:
      When we all get to heaven,
      What a day of rejoicing that will be!
      When we all see Jesus,
      We'll sing and shout the victory!
  2. While we walk the pilgrim pathway,
    Clouds will overspread the sky;
    But when trav'ling days are over,
    Not a shadow, not a sigh.
  3. Let us then be true and faithful,
    Trusting, serving every day;
    Just one glimpse of Him in glory
    Will the toils of life repay.
  4. Onward to the prize before us!
    Soon His beauty we'll behold;
    Soon the pearly gates will open;
    We shall tread the streets of gold.

Blessings,
Mike

Luke 19:1-10
New International Version

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a sinner."

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."
