Verse of the Day 7/2
John 17:3New International Version
John 17:3
New International Version
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
While Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4 are commonly referred to as the Lord's Prayer, His prayer in John 17 is truly the Lord's prayer, He prays to God the Father, prays for His followers and He prays for us, for all whom the Father has given Him.
Many Christians think that eterenal life means that we'll continue to live even after our bodies die here and that we'll be living the lives we want to live in heaven doing the things that we want. to do. That mey be true to an extent, but I don't think that it is going to be a vacation filled with activities such as gold, fishing or any other favorite interests. Today's verse shows us what the focus of that life will be.
My wife's life verse was John 3:30 He must become greater, I must become less. I think that it goes along with today's verse. Him becoming greater will mean that we get to know Him more day by day for eternity. Joyfully getting to know Him better and ushering eternal praise to Him.
All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this
Knowing You, Jesus
Knowing You, there is no greater thing
You're my all, You're the best
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love You, Lord
Now my heart's desire is to know You more
To be found in You and known as Yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness. (Knowing You - Matthew Ward)

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
"Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
