Verse of the Day 7/9

Verse of the Day 7/9

Romans 10:8-9
New International Version

But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

How near is the Word of God to you?  We have it with us as apps on our phones, on our tablets, we have it in the Bible on our night stands or on the book shelf but what about in our hearts and in our mouthes?  For it to be in our hearts and in our mouths we must be taking it in and taking it to heart.  We must be conforming to what we read and learn from it (Romans 12:1-2).  If it is to transform us it must be in us and it will come out.
When He is in our hearts it is because we believe that God raised Him from the dead and we will be willing to declare it.

John Piper writes, "The resurrection of Jesus is God's declaration to Israel and to the world that we cannot work our way to glory but that he intends to do the impossible to get us there. The resurrection is the promise of God that all who trust Jesus will be the beneficiaries of God's power to lead us in paths of righteousness and through the valley of death. Therefore, believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead is much more than accepting a fact. It means being confident that God is for you, that he has closed ranks with you, that he is transforming your life, and that he will save you for eternal joy. "

I'm reminded of the song that we used to sing in youth group years ago, "Pass it On", especially the line "I'll shout it from the mountainn tops, I want the world to know".

It only takes a spark

To get a fire going

And soon all those around

Can warm up in the glowing

That's how it is with God's love

Once you've experienced it

You'll spread His love

To everyone

You'll want to pass it on

I wish for you my friend

This happiness that I've found

You can depend on Him

It matters not where you're bound

I'll shout it from the mountain top

I want the world to know

The Lord of Love

Has come to me

I want to pass it on.        (Kurt Kaiser)

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Romans 10:5-13
New International Version

Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: "The person who does these things will live by them."[a] But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'"[b] (that is, to bring Christ down) "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'"[c] (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"[d] that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, "Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame."[e] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."[
