Verse of the Day 9/3

Verse of the Day 9/3

1 Corinthians 13:6-7
New International Version

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

The read through the New Testament plan that I follow brought me to 1 Corinthians 13 this morning, "the love chapter". The last word in today's verses drew my attention. My wife Jean wrote in our Christmas letter last year that 2025 would be the year of perseverence.  It was for her until the day she passed and it has been for me since.  But it is not the perseverence that I want to focus on this morning, it is the love that is behind it. Reading verse 7 speaks of how she lived her life especially through the last 6 months of her battle. Think of those words in terms of "always" as a way of life, a way of love, of hope, protection and perseverence.

The way of perseverence is that of having the mind of Christ living, dwelling. abiding with us controlling what we do and say.

Verse 1

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By his love and pow'r controlling
All I do and say.

VERSE 2

May the word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through his pow'r.

VERSE 3

May the peace of God, my Father,
Rule my life in ev'rything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

VERSE 4

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea.
Him exalting, self abasing:
This is victory.

VERSE 5

May we run the race before us,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As we onward go.

Onward as we go in perseverence.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

1 Corinthians 13:4-13
New International Version

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
