Verse of the Day 9/4

Verse of the Day 9/4

James 1:12
New International Version

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

We've been considering the idea of perseverence and how we are called to persevere in faith in trials.  Today's word from James gives us good reason to persevere, we will be rewarded for it.  We don't do it soley for the purpose of that reward but we are reminded of the realith that it is there, it is there by faith.  Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:1
New International Version

11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

The heading in the passage from James 1 is "Faith in Action".  Isn't that what perseverence is all about?  My wife Jean persevered in faith right up through her dying moments.  Reading this verses helps me receive comfort knowing that she has received the "crown of life", the promised joys (see below).  If you have recentlly lost a loved one recently, may you receive that comfort as well.

1 Praise the Savior, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him
all we are and have.

2 Jesus is the name that charms us;
He for conflict fits and arms us;
nothing moves and nothing harms us
while we trust in Him.

3 Trust in Him, ye saints, forever;
He is faithful, changing never;
neither force nor guile can sever
those He loves from Him.

4 Keep us, Lord, O keep us cleaving
to Thyself, and still believing,
till the hour of our receiving
promised joys with Thee.

5 Then we shall be where we would be,
then we shall be what we should be;
things that are not now, nor could be,
soon shall be our own.

Blessings,
Mike

Trials and Temptations

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
