Verse of the Day 10/5

Through the Bible - Isaiah 33-34, Philippians 4

Good morning,
This past weekend my wife Jean asked our son Jeff the question "what is your favorite thing"?  His response was one word, "hope".

Hope became the theme of the weekend.  A fried posted a video on Facebook by the title "To all of You Who Feel Like Giving Up" which was done by a man wihout arms and legs but is still happy and an inspiration.  You can view the longer version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8ZuKF3dxCY&feature=related.
Pastor Bob's  message was on hope as  well.

For today's verse we'll go to Romans 15 where one of, if not the primary, purposes of scripture is said to be that we miight have hope.

Rom 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,   NKJV

Tomorrow will mark the 10 th anniversary of our son Jeff's accident which left him with TBI and permanently disablled.  The time that followed was a time when " the creek ran dry", but looking back we can see that God sustained us.
It's been a long journey since then but after Jeff regained his speech after two years he has continued to have hope and is willing to let others know about it.  In addition to that Jeff has taught us more about faith, hope, love and trust than anyone this side of heaven.

I am proud to have him as my son and proud to know that he loves Jesus and that his faith and trust is in Jesus.

I'll close with the opening verses to Hebrews 11, the "Hall of Faith".  It was a chapter that  I had read the morning of the day of Jeff's accident.  Little did I know how much I'd need it and how often I'd come back to it over the years.  It points out that hope and faith are not "wishy washy" they are "sustance", sollid, and a foundation upon which we live our lives.

Heb 11:Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.    NKJV

Our hope is in you Lord, in You.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

Rom 15:4-14
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Glorify God Together

7 Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. 8 Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, 9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written:

" For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles,
And sing to Your name."

10 And again he says:

"Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!"

11 And again:

"Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles!
Laud Him, all you peoples!"

12 And again, Isaiah says:

"There shall be a root of Jesse;
And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles,
In Him the Gentiles shall hope."

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.    NKJV
