Verse of the Day 4/5

Verse of the Day 4/5

2 Corinthians 5:14-15. Holman Christian Standard Bible
14 For Christ's love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: If One died for all, then all died. 15 And He died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.

Jesus stated in John 10:10 "I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly".  That did not come easily.  What we are celebrating this week, from Palm Sunday, to Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday were done so that we could have that life.  It begins now and will carry us through eternity. It came at a high price, Jesus God's own Son in the flesh paying that price.

When I read today's verses in the Holman Christian Standard Bible the first statement caught my attention.  Other translations say something like controls us, which is not wrong, but the word "compels", to me, has more force behind it. It results from an awareness leads to a prompting and results in an action.  Seeing the story of this week, reading it, hearing it in sermons and even in song, should cause us to consider, "what is my reaction to all of this?"  It should compel us to praise Him, to worship Him and to live for Him.

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.
    • Refrain:
      I surrender all,
      I surrender all;
      All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
      I surrender all.
  2. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Humbly at His feet I bow;
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
  3. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
    Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
    Truly know that Thou art mine.
  4. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power,
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
  5. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Now I feel the sacred flame;
    Oh, the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory, to His Name!

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

2 Corinthians 5
Holman Christian Standard Bible

Our Future after Death

For we know that if our temporary, earthly dwelling[a] is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling[b] in the heavens, not made with hands. Indeed, we groan in this body, desiring to put on our dwelling from heaven, since, when we are clothed,[c] we will not be found naked. Indeed, we groan while we are in this tent, burdened as we are, because we do not want to be unclothed but clothed, so that mortality may be swallowed up by life. And the One who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment.

So, we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight, and we are confident and satisfied to be out of the body and at home with the Lord. Therefore, whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the tribunal of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body, whether good or worthless.

11 Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we seek to persuade people. We are completely open before God, and I hope we are completely open to your consciences as well. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who take pride in the outward appearance[d] rather than in the heart. 13 For if we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we have a sound mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ's love compels[e]

 us, since we have reached this conclusion: If One died for all, then all died. 15 And He died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.
