Verse of the Day 5/30

Verse of the Day 5/30

2 Corinthians 5:4-5
English Standard Version

For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

Our Tuesday Men's Bible study reviewed 2 Corinthians 5 this morning.  A couple of times in this passage Paul mentions that "we groan".  He references our earthly tents, our bodies which are temporary and it is in these that we groan from various trials and circumstances. A groan is felt deep within, sometimes in our gut, other times in our emotions, in our hearts and minds.  We long for healing, for a change of circumstances and we hope and pray for deliverance.

As Christians we realize that our earthly bodies are not the end.  As we grow older more and more things break down or weaken.  We remember the days when things were working properly and we didn't even have to think about doing things, we just did them.  Now, we look forward to the time when we willl be restored, renewed and have heavenly bodies.  And God gives us His Spirit as a guarantee of what is to come.

Whatever may be bothering us, hurting us and causing us to groan, may we "be of good courage" and draw upon the strength that He provides to persevere and overcome.

1 This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus:
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Blessings,
Mike

2 Corinthians 5:1-9
English Standard Version

Our Heavenly Dwelling

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on[a]

we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
