Verse of the Day 9/3

Verse of the Day 9/3

Psalm 150:1-2
English Standard Version

Let Everything Praise the Lord

150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
    praise him according to his excellent greatness!

 This morning I completed my daily reading through the Psalms and will go back to Psalm 1 tomorrow.  Before doing so, I'll spend some time dwelling on, thinking about this great Psalm.  It is fitting that I read it on Sunday before going to church to worship and praise our Lord.  We are called to assemble together, there is something about singing toghether with joy that cannot be done, cannot be experiences sitting at home on your couch.

I"m one that loves to sing the old hymns but also enjoy modern contemporary Christian music with guitars, drums and keyboards.  Reading the psalm it is hard to argue against the use of modern instruments.  But the key is the heart, what is our motivation?  Verse 2 gives us an answer, to "praise Him for His mighty deeds, praise Him according to His excellent greatness!".  I don't think we'll be singing this in our church service this morning but I'll share the words to one of the many great Fannie Crosby hymns and I will sing this one myslef before going to worship with the congregation in His sanctuary.

  1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    Sing, O earth—His wonderful love proclaim!
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory;
    Strength and honor give to His holy Name!
    Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
    In His arms He carries them all day long.
    • Refrain:
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
  2. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
    He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.
    Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
    Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.
  3. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    Heav'nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
    Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;
    Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
    Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
    Pow'r and glory unto the Lord belong.

We are to continue to honor and praise Him until the day when He returns to call us home, then we'll continue to praise Him forever in joyful song.

Blessings,
Mike
