Through the Bible - Leviticus 23-24, Revelation 2
Good morning,
I have several friends that been battling cancer. They have been in my prayers, and in my heart and mind often. While there prognosis here is not good, their eternal prognosis, their eternal destiny is secure in Jesus Christ.
This morning's "Daily Bread" devotional is from Isaiah 26. It was fitting for what was on my heart this morning. We'll go there for this familiar verse.
Isa 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. ESV
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. ESV
The author of today's Daily Bread writes, "Whether we're facing annoying inconvenience or heartbreaking loss, this rock solid promise is worth memorizing and repeating."
The hymn "A Mighty Fortress is Our God", written by Martin Luther was based upon Psalm 46 where we read that "God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble." (v.1). The reference here in verse 4 that the Lord God is our "everlasting rock"and that our salvation (v.1) serves as our walls and bulwarks, brought this hymn to mind. Especially the following words:
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
God is our everlasting rock, our "bulwark" against the flood, the tsunami, as it may seem at times in our lives.
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
Yesterday we considered what it means to "wait on the Lord". We'll close for today with verses 8 and 9 from Isaiah 26. For those souls that seek Him, yearn for Him earnestly, He will be found, He will bring peace.
Isa 26:8 In the path of your judgments,
O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and remembrance
are the desire of our soul.
9 My soul yearns for you in the night;
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. ESV
O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and remembrance
are the desire of our soul.
9 My soul yearns for you in the night;
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. ESV
Whether you are facing annoying inconveniences or heartbreak today, remember and hold onto the promise of these verses.
In Christ,
Mike

26 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
"We have a strong city;
he sets up salvation
as walls and bulwarks.
2 Open the gates,
that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in.
3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
5 For he has humbled
the inhabitants of the height,
the lofty city.
He lays it low, lays it low to the ground,
casts it to the dust.
6 The foot tramples it,
the feet of the poor,
the steps of the needy."
7 The path of the righteous is level;
you make level the way of the righteous.
8 In the path of your judgments,
O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and remembrance
are the desire of our soul.
9 My soul yearns for you in the night;
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. ESV
