Verse of the Day 10/28

1 John 2:24-25 New Living Translation (NLT)   24 So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. 25 And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.

The gospel of John and his letters have several common themes.  Among them are light, love, and abiding.  The three of these go together.  The ESV and NKJV translations says "let what you have heard from the beginning abide in you".  Once it enters, let it in, nurture it, let it take root so you will grow.  If you do so He will remain in you and with you all of your days.  From here and into eternity.

We will be starting a Sunday morning study with our high school students this coming weekend, it is titled "Rooted".  That is the hope of any teacher to their students.  That what they teach will take hold in the students, that they will be rooted, grounded, and grow in their faith and that Christ would shine forth in their lives.

John Piper shares a little bit about what this involves. "Guard yourselves from the deceiver and the antichrist. Love the Word, live in the Word, pray the Word, memorize the Word. And before every sentence lay yourself wide open to whatever the Spirit wants to do with you by the Word. Are we willing to "lay ourselves wide open to whatever the Spirit wants to do" in and through us?

Blessings,
Mike

1 John 2:24-27

New King James Version (NKJV) Let Truth Abide in You

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26
These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
