Verse of the Day 10/4

Hebrews 6:19 Amplified Bible (AMP)  19[Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it--a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil,

This first week in October is one that will forever be etched into the minds of our family.  The course of our lives was changed twelve years ago and as time passes we realize that the things that change are largely changed by hope.  Hope is a choice.  We have the choice to live in hope or to live in despair.  Let us choose hope.

The hope of a Christian is not a blind hope it is rock solid, it is "anchored" behind the veil as referred to in today's verse.  A vivid picture of what Christ has accomplished for us.

"We put our faith, trust and hope in our God who is our forgiver, healer, redeemer, bestower of love and compassion, satisfier and life renewer.  The Lord's "hessed" (loyal, steadfast love) is unmatched in all the cosmos, and anywhere hessed is lived out, it originates from God.  The Lord's hessed and compassion are grounds for praise and the hope for forgiveness of sinners." (from today's "Today in the Word" devotional).

Our son Jeff, whose life was changed most during that period that started twelve years ago, sums it up best, "hope is my favorite thing to have".  A young man who couldn't speak for two years and is a man of few words, reveals this truth to us, it comes from his heart and is straight from the heart of God.

May you have such hope in and through your time of need, sure and steadfast that reaches farther, beyond this earth to the very presence of God.
O Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God, hold us who wait before thee near to the heart of God.
In Christ,
Mike

Hebrews 6:13-20

New Living Translation (NLT) God's Promises Bring Hope

13 For example, there was God's promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:

14 "I will certainly bless you,
and I will multiply your descendants beyond number."

15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

16 Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. 17 God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. 18 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
