Verse of the Day 1/31

1 Corinthians 15:3   For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, English Standard Version (ESV)

A couple of days ago we considered 1 John 2: and the call to "purify ourselves" and have been using the analogy of a surgeon scrubbing in.  Yesterday we considered the psalmist in Psalm 119:9 asking the question "how can a young man keep his way pure" which was answered immediately in the same verse, "by guarding your heart according to your word."  The psalmist revealed his hearts desire and devotion in saying "I will not neglect" or forget your word.

In applying what they've learned, the surgeon has learned that scrubbing in is "of first importance" in properly preparing for surgery.  In today's verse the Apostle Paul reminds his readers and us that the gospel in accordance with the rest of scripture is of "first importance"/

The question it poses for us today is where does God's Word rank in our daily lives.  We may pray, "give us this day our daily bread", let us not be satisfied with crumbs, but take in, feed on, be fed by His Word, and pray to Him this way as of first importance.  After all, as Paul says earlier in the passage, it is the gospel which we have received in which we stand (v.1).

Blessings,
Mike

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

English Standard Version (ESV)

The Resurrection of Christ

15 Now I would remind you, brothers,[a] of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
