Verse of the Day 1/5

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."  New International Version (NIV)

Many of our students are heading out, heading back to school.  High school has started back up and many colleges will start up next week with a new semester, new classes, new teachers.  Parents will be praying that God will keep their children safe.  This is a good thing to do but it shouldn't stop there.

Today's charge from Joshua to his, to God's people was for them to be bold, be courageous as they headed out into new territory.  The preceding verse gives a pre-requisite for their going out with such an attitude.  They needed to carry God's Word with them in their hearts and let it out in their speech.

Joshua 1:8  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.   New International Version (NIV)
It should serve as a reminder for us as parents, teachers and those who minister to children that we should be doing our best to prepare them.  The words of the verse reminded me of a song sung by Morris Chapman at a Promise Keepers event years ago.

Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
Be bold, be strong
For the Lord your God is with you
I am not afraid
I am not dismayed
Because I'm walking in faith and victory
Come on and walk in faith and victory
For the Lord your God is with you

May we do our best to prepare our children, young and old, to be able to walk in faith and victory, to be bold and courageous in their faith, knowing that their God is with them.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV
Joshua 1:7-9  New Living Translation (NLT)
7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
