Verse of the Day 4/30

 Psalm 16:11  You will show me the way of life,
    granting me the joy of your presence
    and the pleasures of living with you forever.   New Living Translation (NLT)

Today's verse came from John Piper's daily devotional where he listed 15 ways in which we should fight for joy.  The last two were as follows:

  • do the hard and loving thing for the sake of others (witness and mercy)
  • get a global vision for the cause of Christ and pour yourself out for the unreached.

Our youth group will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine in order to raise funds and awareness for starving children around the world, to bring food and hope to those in need through World Vision.

Yesterday, I referenced Galatians 5:22 and the fruit of the Spirit.  The passage contrasts the life of self indulgence and the immoralities associated with it and the Spirit lead life which produces fruti.  It is a choice between two ways, two paths, or two roads.  One leads to destruction the other leads to life, producing fruit,  here and to eternity.

It will not be easy, but through the power of the Spirit, may we be willing to do the hard and loving thing for others who are less fortunate with a global vision for the cause of Christ.  What can each of us do to participate in the 30 Hour Famine and other opportunities down the path towards life?

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 16:10-11

English Standard Version (ESV)

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
    or let your holy one see corruption.

11 You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
