Verse of the Day 6/2

Psalm 25:6  Mark the milestones of your mercy and love, God;
Rebuild the ancient landmarks!  The Message (MSG)

The other day, my son Jason texted me a video of my granddaughter Ava taking some of her firs steps.  It was a great blessing of our modern technology to be able to see it and have the event captured and to treasure.  It will be one of the milestones of the little one's life.  The first steps are one of many markers that we set up in the lives of our children and grandchildren.

In today's verse the psalmist is calling on God to mark, to cause him to remember those spiritual markers in his own life and those of his heritage.  Each of us as Christians should have our own spiritual markers, milestones, that we can call, look back on and draw upon as times of remembrance of God's work in our lives.  They can be of times of joy, they can be of times of deliverance, they can be time of loss or mourning.  No matter what the case, God showed us part of Himself in these situations, and revealed a little more of Himself that we could take hold of, hold on to, and treasure for the rest of our lives.

We read from this passage in church this morning and also sang the hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing".  The second stanza goes like this:

Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.
The "Ebenezer" spoken of hear, was a stone of remembrance.  A spiritual marker of God's deliverance from the enemy and a miraculous parting of the Jordan river.  Take some time today to recall some of your spiritual milestones, your markers, your ebenezers.  Call on Him to help you remember them and praise Him as you do.

In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 25:6-10

The Message (MSG)

Mark the milestones of your mercy and love, God;
Rebuild the ancient landmarks!

Forget that I sowed wild oats;
Mark me with your sign of love.
Plan only the best for me, God!

God is fair and just;
He corrects the misdirected,
Sends them in the right direction.

He gives the rejects his hand,
And leads them step-by-step.

10 From now on every road you travel
Will take you to God.
Follow the Covenant signs;
Read the charted directions.
