Verse of the Day 6/4

Verse of the Day 6/4

1 Peter 1:10  Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated.  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

How often do you stop and think of your salvation, your great salvation?  Do you think of it as something that God has planned particularly for you?

Peter's message was given during perilous times.  Nero was the ruler of the Roman empire.  He was a tyrannical emperor set on destroying the Christians whom he blamed for all that was wrong in the empire.  Peter's message was one of God's grace to give them hope in such troubled times.  Amidst such chaos, the message was that God had a plan for them.  Not some spur of the moment thing, but something that was planned for them from the beginning.

In today's verse Peter speaks of "the grace that would come to you".  It was of God's plan of salvation that was investigated, prophesied and hoped for by the Old Testament prophets, the Holy Spirit, the New Testament apostles and the angels.  All of these working together "for you" and I, we are part of that marvelous plan.

The prophets inquired and searched to learn more of this salvation, not only for themselves but for us.  What about us?  We should search, inquire, study to learn more so that we can tell, inform others of this great salvation of God's grace, we are part of that same plan.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

1 Peter 1:9-12

The Message (MSG)

8-9 You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don't see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you'll get what you're looking forward to: total salvation.

10-12 The prophets who told us this was coming asked a lot of questions about this gift of life God was preparing. The Messiah's Spirit let them in on some of it—that the Messiah would experience suffering, followed by glory. They clamored to know who and when. All they were told was that they were serving you, you who by orders from heaven have now heard for yourselves—through the Holy Spirit—the Message of those prophecies fulfilled. Do you realize how fortunate you are? Angels would have given anything to be in on this!
