Revelation 22:20-21 He who testifies about these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly."
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
In yesterday's passage from 1 Peter 4 Peter wrote that "the end of all things is at hand" referencing that the return of the Lord was immanent. With that in mind he encouraged his readers then and now to love one another "earnestly", deeply, stretching ourselves because the time was short. He also said "above all", to love one another. He was saying make it your number one priority.
Some of us, at times in our lives, perhaps even now, have been "stretched" or strained by loved ones. It can wear us out emotionally, spiritually and have an impact on us physically. Today's verse is another challenge and comfort to us.
I'm sure we can look back at times and circumstances in our lives where we felt the burden would never end, but now those events and emotions are a distant memory. One day, when He comes quickly, we will look back at these times and feel the same way. We will look back and see how the Lord Jesus was with us, leading us, encouraging and challenging us, and sometimes carrying us, and we will praise Him.
Let's go back to yesterday's passage, from The Message. May the words encourage us to press on while we say and pray "come, Lord Jesus".
1 Peter 4:7-11 Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homelesscheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God's words; if help, let it be God's hearty help. That way, God's bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he'll get all the credit as the One mighty in everythingencores to the end of time. Oh, yes! The Message (MSG)
In Christ,
Mike
