Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. English Standard Version (ESV)
Today is July 1 and with the 4th of July holiday falling on Monday, many will be heading out sometime today to enjoy the extended holiday weekend. There will be all kinds of activities; ball games with fireworks, picnics and barbecues, perhaps a little fishing or just time spent with family and friends. Today's verse is a good reminder for us to have in the back of our minds. Whatever we do, do it in the name of the Lord, in thanks to Him, giving thanks to Him and sharing Him with others. May Christ and His blessings be a part of our thoughts and conversations.
Max Lucado writes, "Your message, your salvation, your body, your struggles, your success – all proclaim God's glory… He's the source, we are the glass. He's the light , we are the mirrors. He sends the message, we mirror it. We rest in His pack awaiting His call. And when placed in His hands, we do His work. It's not about us, it's all about Him." (From It's Not About Me – Max Lucado).
Read the passage from The Message below. This weekend, "let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other"…."cultivate thankfulness" …. "thanking God the Father every step of the way". Let's be thankful for America and God's blessing upon it and pray for His grace to be upon it and for better days ahead.
I woke up in America for the love of God
I woke up in America for something bigger than myself
More than fireworks and fanfare
More than a star-spangled banner
You're still beautiful America
Yeah it's late in the night and I look in the mirror
Count the lines on my face and wonder how they got there
Oh but every one's a story of how grace appeared
And carried me through the day
And the voice said, "this land ain't dead"
You still got better days up ahead (Matt Maher – Woke Up in America)
I woke up in America for something bigger than myself
More than fireworks and fanfare
More than a star-spangled banner
You're still beautiful America
Yeah it's late in the night and I look in the mirror
Count the lines on my face and wonder how they got there
Oh but every one's a story of how grace appeared
And carried me through the day
And the voice said, "this land ain't dead"
You still got better days up ahead (Matt Maher – Woke Up in America)
Blessings,
Mike
Colossians 3:17The Message (MSG)
15-17 Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.
