Verse of the Day 7/10
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one, 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
We've been considering what it means to hear the voice of God, we've been called to do His will, whatever it is, wherever we are, wherever we go.
The book of Deuteronomy is a book about transition. The Jews had left Egypt and wandered for 40 years. Now they are about to enter the promised land and Moses spends 40 days telling them of a message from God to them, a call for them to be faithful, to live what they believe and to pass that along to the next generation. It is not a message for some time in the future, it is a message for right here, right now but does not stop there, it is for the rest of their lives. That's how the passage starts in verse 1, "now".
This time of year is a time of transition for many. Children will be moving up to new grades in the fall, some to middle school, high school or possible college or a trade school. Summer it a time for weddings, for young hearts to be joined and begin a new journey as one. There will be career changes, relocation and the changes that go along with it. The message of this passage is fitting for any of those. Amidst the commotion of those changes, the call is clear "hear" this message that God has for you.
Return to this passage, these verses often. Let them reverberate in our hearts and minds, "Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got!" v. 5 The Message

Deuteronomy 6:4-12The Message (MSG)
4 Attention, Israel!
God, our God! God the one and only!
5 Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got!
6-9 Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
10-12 When God, your God, ushers you into the land he promised through your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you, you're going to walk into large, bustling cities you didn't build, well-furnished houses you didn't buy, come upon wells you didn't dig, vineyards and olive orchards you didn't plant. When you take it all in and settle down, pleased and content, make sure you don't forget how you got there—God brought you out of slavery in Egypt.
