Verse of the Day 8/2
Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith[b] into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. English Standard Version (ESV)
I don't know what kind of troubles you may have faced yesterday and we don't know what kind of troubles we will encounter today but today's verses tell us that we can have peace with God in, through, and beyond those troubles and it happens by having faith in God, trusting in Him to see you through.
The New King James version that I read gave the heading for this passage "faith triumphs in trouble". Other "e-Bibles" that I had gave different captions. Joining them together – faith triumphs in trouble, faith brings joy, and faith brings peace with God. And to that I would add faith gives hope and faith brings us into His grace. Hope is mentioned at the end of verse two and two more times in the short passage
The verse tells us that we have those things, but we need to take hold of them and thank Him for them. Charles Spurgeon writes, "Thank him for little grace, and ask him for great grace. He has given you hope, ask for faith; and when he gives you faith, ask for assurance; and when you get assurance, ask for full assurance; and when you have obtained full assurance, ask for enjoyment; and when you have enjoyment, ask for glory itself; and he shall surely give it to you in his own appointed season. "
Read the passage below, may we "have" these things today.
Blessings,
Mike
Romans 5:1-5New Living Translation (NLT)
Faith Brings Joy
5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace[a] with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
