Verse of the Day 8/3
Psalm 20:7-8 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright. English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we considered what it means and what we gain from having faith in times of trouble and danger. In Psalm 20 David begins and the psalm by stating, praying for us "may the Lord answer you in the day of trouble.
In 1992 country singer Travis Tritt released the song "Trouble" and he spelled it out in the song T-R-O-U-B-L-E. He also asked the question, "what in the world are you doin' A-L-O-N-E? All too often we try to take on our troubles and the troubles of the world around us alone. We should seek the help of others, we should seek advice, wisdom, comfort and courage from them but the first place we should turn, the first place we should place our trust is in the Lord. He is the One who ultimately will be able to make us stand.
In his devotional for today, Pastor David Jeremiah writes, "Regardless of the level of fear and danger we feel, our ultimate help comes from the Lord, not from horses, chariots, or the Philistines. Perhaps the Lord will use others to help us; but we must always keep our eyes focused on Him. Jesus said, "Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22). The Bible assures us, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10:11).
Verses 4 to 6 from the New Living Translation continues David's prayer and it is for us today.
May he grant your heart's desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.
Blessings,
Mike

and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Interlude

6 Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
8 Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
8 Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
9 Give victory to our king, O Lord!
Answer our cry for help.
