Verse of the Day 8/22
Isaiah 12:2-3 "Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the Lord God is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation."
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. English Standard Version (ESV)
The other day we considered the Great Commission in Matthew 28 to go, make disciples, and baptize them. We also considered how baptism is making a public declaration of what God has done for us, bringing a change in us, molding us into who He would have us to be.
Today's verses come from the Old Testament book of Isaiah and "just came up" in my Old Testament reading. The prophet is making this Old Testament declaration, pointing to God and as we see in many of his writings, pointing to the Savior who is to come, Jesus. The verses bring us through some important steps, actions of faith. Declaring that God is his salvation, pledging trust and not being afraid during times of trouble, relying on God for strength, acknowledging that he is holding onto God, showing that God provides deliverance. It leads to joy being drawn from that bottomless, never ending well.
I'm reminded of the song "Spring Up O Well":
I've got a river of life flowing out of me
Makes the lame to walk and the blind to see,
Opens prison doors, sets the captive free.
I've got a river of life flowing out of me.
Chorus:
Spring up, O well, within my soul.
Spring up, O well, and make me whole
Spring up, O well, and give to me
That life abundantly
Will you declare today what God has done and is doing for you? Draw from that well, may it spring up in your heart and your soul to produce that abundant life.
Isaiah 12:3-4 Joyfully you'll pull up buckets of water
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you'll say,
"Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done,
spread the news of his great reputation! The Message
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you'll say,
"Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done,
spread the news of his great reputation! The Message
Blessings,
Mike
Isaiah 12:2-4The Message (MSG)
2 "Yes, indeed—God is my salvation.
I trust, I won't be afraid.
God—yes God!—is my strength and song,
best of all, my salvation!"
I trust, I won't be afraid.
God—yes God!—is my strength and song,
best of all, my salvation!"
3-4 Joyfully you'll pull up buckets of water
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you'll say,
"Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done,
spread the news of his great reputation!
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you'll say,
"Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he's done,
spread the news of his great reputation!
