Verse of the Day 9/28

Verse of the Day 9/28

1 Timothy 1:5
English Standard Version

The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

For many people the goal, their aim in life is to live a long life with financial security so that they can spend their final years doing as they please, perhaps collecting sea shells on the sea shore.  Paul is writing to Timothy about the goal of the church, the goal of ministry and the goal of a Christ follower.  The charge is to love God and love others.

Greg Laurie in his devotional for today writes, "Peter Marshall, the former chaplain to the United States Senate, once said, "The measure of a life, after all, is not its duration but its donation".  It is not about how long we live but what we do with it.  What is our donation to society?  As a Christian what is our donation to the church, to the furtherance of the gospel.

What is the point of what we do day in and day out?  Is it for a long life on "easy street" or is to show love in spreading, sharing the gospel in living our lives from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere fatih?

As you head out today consider what will be your donation to society, to your church, to Christ today?

Blessings,
Mike

Warning Against False Teachers

As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship[a] from God that is by faith. The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.
