Verse of the Day 1/6

Verse of the Day 1/6

Revelation 21:4. New International Version

'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

This has been a hard week finding out that two friends had passed away suddenly.  One was a member of a Bible study group at church and also a member of a senior golf group.  The other was a longtime friend, mentor, choir member and boss for many years. Both were Christians so it eases the pain to know that they are now with the Lord.

There are many verses that come to mind in such times, I think of  Psalm 90:12 "teach us to number our days", as well as:

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

As believers, we are confident that our friends are now rejoicing with their Savior.  All of the illness, sorrow, pain or suffering in heaven.  Not only that, there will be no scars to remind us of our painful past.  We will be too busy focusing on our Savior and enjoying the time with Him.

While driving yesterday I heard the song "Scars in Heaven" from Casting Crowns.  I thought of the words in relation to my two friends "now standing in the sun, the race won, and the pain a million miles away.

I know the road you walked was anything but easy
You picked up your share of scars along the way
Oh, but now you're standing in the sun, you've fought your fight and your race is run
The pain is all a million miles away

The only scars in heaven, they won't belong to me and you
There'll be no such thing as broken and all the old will be made new
And the thought that makes me smile now even as the tears fall down
Is that the only scars in heaven are on the hands that hold you now

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, for the hands that hold you now

Here's to you Bob and Ron, until we meet again.

Blessings,
Mike

Revelation 21:1-4
New International Version

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw "a new heaven and a new earth,"[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death'[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
