Verse of the Day 1/7

Verse of the Day 1/7

1 Peter 1:13. Holman Christian Standard Bible

13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action,be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

A modern day phenomenon on our roads is "distracted driving".  People. become distracted, focusing on their cell phones to text and receive messages while driving.  It leads to serious accidents every day.  It not only happens on the roads, people walking while texting have fallen into man-holes and walked into street signs.  We've all seen the videos.

It is easy to go through life distracted, focusing on things that don't matter and not paying attention to the most important things in our lives, much of it having to do with relationships, those with our spouses, kids and grandkids.  Today's verse is a reminder that we need focus and we need to be prepared, ready for action, ready to face the day while depending on God's grace and wisdom that He reveals to us in His Word and in prayer.

We need to realize that there is more to this life than we can find on our cell phones and social media,  Steven Curtis Chapman reminds us in his song "More to This Life".

He takes care of his family, he takes care of his work,
And every Sunday morning he takes his place at the church;
And somehow he still feels a need to search,
But life just goes on.

[Chorus]

So where do we start to find every part
Of what makes this life complete;
If we turn our eyes to Jesus we'll find
Life's true beginning is there at the cross where He died.
He died to bring us...

But there's more to this life than living and dying,
More than just trying to make it through the day;
More to this life, more than these eyes alone can see,
And there's more than this life alone can be.

Where, or on what is your mind set today?

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Holman Christian Standard Bible

A Call to Holy Living

13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action,[a] be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. 15 But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.[b]

17 And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially based on each one's work, you are to conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your temporary residence. 18 For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. 20 He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you 21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
