Verse of the Day 3/20

Verse of the Day 3/20

Psalm 150:3-5
English Standard Version

Praise him with trumpet sound;
    praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
    praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
    praise him with loud clashing cymbals!

My daily reading in the Psalms brought me to Psalm 150 yesterday.  It is a fitting verse at any time, but especially so as we move from winter into spring.  If you have had the chance to be outside in the sunshine over the past few days it was as if all creation was singing praise to God.  The birds chirping and singing busy with building their nests, the flowers beginning to bloom, and the trees beginning to blossom.

I enjoy reading Psalm 150 because it is a reminder that we are not limited in the instruments to be used in praising the Lord.  Growing up, organ and piano were the common instruments used, but today, we have much more, but probably not as much as is mentioned in today's passage

Verse 2 says "praise Him for His mighty deeds, praise Him according to His excellent greatness".  If you have not head off to church this morning, prepare to sing praise to HIm.  If you have already gone, sing out again, go for a walk, sing to yourself or out loud.  Sing a new song or sing an old hymn, either way, praise Him for His excellent greatness.

We'll close with one of my favorite hymns from Fannie Crosby.

  1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    Sing, O earth—His wonderful love proclaim!
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory;
    Strength and honor give to His holy Name!
    Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
    In His arms He carries them all day long.
    • Refrain:
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
      Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
  2. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
    He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
    Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.
    Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
    Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.
  3. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
    Heav'nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
    Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;
    Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
    Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
    Pow'r and glory unto the Lord belong.

Blessings,
Mike
