Verse of the Day 10/19

Verse of the Day 10/19

1 Peter 4:8-9
English Standard Version

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

In today's passage Paul reminded his readers that the end of all things is at hand.  That was 2000 years ago, but as we read elesewhere in scripture a 1000 years are like a day ifor the Lord and in comparison to eternity.  The passage goes on to remind us that we are to do good, love one another, show hospitality without grumbling and use our gifts to serve one another according to the varied grace that the Lord will provide.

Verse 7 tells us that we are to be, to live "self controlled" lives.  It is a way of life, walking with the Lord.

Tim McGraw's song "Humble and Kind" gives us a glimpse of what this "being humble and kind" looks like.  It is a place to start for us.

Hold the door say please say thank you Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie I know you got moutains to climb but Always stay humble and kind When the dreams you're dreamin' come to you When the work you put in is realized Let yourself feel the pride but Always stay humble and kind Don't expect a free ride from no one Don't hold a grudge or a chip and here's why Bitterness keeps you from flying Always stay humble and kind

May God be glorified as you walk with humbleness and kindness, in the grace that the Lord provides.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

1 Peter 4:7-11
English Standard Version

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
