Verse of the Day 10/6

Verse of the Day 10/6

Psalm 147:10-11
English Standard Version

10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
    nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
    in those who hope in his steadfast love.

Today's verses came up in my daily reading in the Psalms.  The psalm begins with a shout of praise to the Lord for who He is and what He has done as well as the confidence in what He will do for those who fear Him, who put their faith and trust in Him and His unfailing love.

In our society, people do all kinds of things to try to impress others, especially people of "influence".  It might be a fast car, fancy clothes, a demonstration of their skils, or the giving of expensive gifts.  All of them may have their place, but the psalmist breaks it down to what is most important to God, respect and acknowledgment of who He is and who hope in and depend on His steadfast love.  Those who do so will not go unrewarded for their faith and trust in Him and will praise Him.  God delights in those who delight in HIm.

Your love, oh Lord
Reaches to the heavens
Your faithfulness
Stretches to the skies
Your righteousness is
Like the mighty mountain, yes
Your justice flows like the ocean's tides

I will lift my voice
To worship You, my King
And I will find my strength
In the shadow of Your wings.  (Third Day - Your Love Oh Lord)

Psalm 36:5-9
English Standard Version

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
    your judgments are like the great deep;
    man and beast you save, O Lord.

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
    The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
    and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches

Psalm 147:1-11
English Standard Version

He Heals the Brokenhearted

147 Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
    for it is pleasant,[a] and a song of praise is fitting.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
    he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars;
    he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
    his understanding is beyond measure.
The Lord lifts up the humble;

 he casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
    make melody to our God on the lyre!
He covers the heavens with clouds;
    he prepares rain for the earth;
    he makes grass grow on the hills.
He gives to the beasts their food,
    and to the young ravens that cry.
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
    nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
    in those who hope in his steadfast love.
