Verse of the Day 10/12
Proverbs 17:17New King James Version
Proverbs 17:17
New King James Version
17 A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity. It is good to read through the Bible and follow reading plans. However, it can become routine and our reading may be more of a "checklist", each day checking off a thing that we are to do without really slowing down on a passage or even a verse to explore what it is saying to us.
Today's verse from Proverbs 17 is an example of this. Depending on translation it is only 13 words, most of whch are 1 to 3 letters, but it speaks volumes. The word "friend" has been diluted by social media with people having thousands of "friends" but applying this verse to the context would reduce that number greatly. A true friend is one who loves at all times, through thick and thin, good and bad and through joys and sorrows. You may ask a question who are my friends or turn that around to , to whom am I a friend.
As far as a brother or sister, we can think of our family, but we can easily expand that to our Christian brothers and sisters. Think of times of adversity in your own life. Think of and praise God for the brothers and sisters in your life who have offered help, comfort, and love during those times. Can you think of how you've shown the same to others.
As you read through the Bible let a verse catch your attention. Stop and think about it for a whlle, it will go a long way towards "let the Word of God dwell richly." which was part of my reading plan for today.
Colossians 3:16-17 New King James Version
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Blessings,
Mike

Proverbs 17:15-20
New King James Version
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.
16 Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom,
Since he has no heart for it?
17 A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity.
18 A man devoid of [a]understanding [b]shakes hands in a pledge,
And becomes [c]surety for his friend.
19 He who loves transgression loves strife,
And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.
20 He who has adeceitful heart finds no good,
And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.
