Verse of the Day 10/18

Verse of the Day 10/18

Colossians 3:15-16
New King James Version

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

I read these verses the other day after I had read John 15 about "abiding in Christ" as the true vine.  We are to remain connected to Jesus as He is the vine and should live in Him as we draw from Him and lives in us.

The first statement in today's verse should draw our attention.  We are to let the peace of God "rule" in our hearts.  We may think of the word "rule" as being like the rule of a king.  But the word is actually more like an umpire, referee or line judge. The peace of God should rule, help us, guide us to make decisions with His peace as the backdrop.  I needed to read and hear that.  Let His peace decide what is inbounds or out of bounds for us and let it be.

How can we do this?

Pastor James Smith gives us a few ways as we let the Word dwell richly in us.

We have . . .
  His Word in our hands,
  His grace in our hearts,
  His mercies in our houses,
  His Heaven before our eyes!

O for a thankful heart!

Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One;
give thanks, because he's given
Jesus Christ, his Son.
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One;
give thanks, because he's given
Jesus Christ, his Son.

And now let the weak say 'I am strong',
let the poor say 'I am rich',
because of what the Lord has done for us;
and now let the weak say 'I am strong',
let the poor say 'I am rich',
because of what the Lord has done for us.
Give thanks…

Blessings,
Mike

Colossians 3:12-17
New King James Version

Character of the New Man

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
