Verse of the Day -weekend 10/19

Through the Bible - Jeremiah 1-5, 2 Thessalonians 3 - 1 Timothy 1

Good morning,
For today's verse we'll go to Psalm chapter 16 where the psalmist speaks of God as being "my portion, my inheritance, my cup, and my lot."

Ps 16:5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance. NKJV

You've probably heard and talked of "the cup" in reference to our outlook, the cup being half empty or half full. There is some good advice in that and something we should keep in our minds to have a proper perspective. But if you were to think of God as "my cup" how would you look at it? Would it be like David in Psalm 23?

Ps 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

Can you say at this point in your life "my cup runneth over"?

The psalm is a psalm of hope, of final victory in the Messiah over lifes battles and struggles. Inheritance is something that we receive after we die. But in Christ we can receive some of the blessing here and now in strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.

Great is Thy Faithfulness

1. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me.

2. Summer and winter and spring-time and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Read Psalm 16 with a heart of praise.

In Christ,
Mike

Ps 16:1-17:1
The Hope of the Faithful, and the Messiah's Victory
A Michtam of David.

16:1 Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.
2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord,"You are my Lord,My goodness is nothing apart from You." 3 As for the saints who are on the earth,"They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight."
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god;Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,Nor take up their names on my lips.
5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;You maintain my lot. 6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;Yes, I have a good inheritance.
7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. 8 I have set the Lord always before me;Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;My flesh also will rest in hope. 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 11 You will show me the path of life;In Your presence is fullness of joy;At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
NKJV
