Verse of the Day 12/1

Verse of the Day 12?1

Ephesians 1:13-14  In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.  English Standard Version (ESV)

For today's verses we'll return once more to Ephesians chapter 1 and Paul's "in him" statements that stand as reminders of what we have with faith in Christ.  Today's verses remind us that it started when we heard the word of truth.  These thoughts bring me back to John 1 and how John began his gospel.

John 1:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men English Standard Version (ESV)

We received the Word and Christ came to us through the Word and through the Word, through Him is life.  Once we received Him we were adopted into His family as The Message puts it we were "signed, sealed and delivered by the Holy Spirit".  Once God put His seal on us, there is nothing, no one that could break that seal.

As we head into this Advent Season where we celebrate the time that God came near and sent His Son as a babe in the manger let us praise God for His Son, and acknowledge Him and His life as the light of men.

Ephesians 1:13-14The Message (MSG)

13-14 It's in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what's coming, a reminder that we'll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.
